Title
"CRIME HERE SIMILAR TO ONE IN CROWLEY"
Subject
The terrible crime enacted in this city Sunday morning, in which five human beings were the victims, bears a similarity with the crime committed in Crowley that latter part of last week, in which a woman and her three children were brained to death with an axe.
Another ghastly crime was unearthed in Crowley, Friday, when the mangled bodies of Marie Warner, a colored woman, and her three children were discovered in a hut in the west part of town. They had been slain with an axe, and the bloody instrument was left in the house and is the only evidence of how they came to their death that has so far been discovered. It is supposed that the murder was committed Thursday night. The crime was discovered shortly after noon, when Harriet Crane, mother of the murder woman, called at her home. She was at first afraid to go in for her. The four victims were found lying on a bed side by side, where they had evidently been placed after being brained. The woman was about 30 years old and for the past four years has been separated from her husband, who is living in Beaumont. The children are two girls, Pearl, aged 9, and Harriet, aged 5, and a boy, Garry, aged 7. The coroner's jury is in session making an investigation of the murder, and the police and sheriff's force are working on the case, but so far have found no clue.
This is the second murder of this kind that has been committed in Crowley within the past year.
