Title

"TWO ARRESTS IN WARNER MURDER"

Subject

Two more arrests have been made by the sheriff and police departments in connection with the murder of the Warner family in West Crowley which occurred during the night of the 18th instant. The arrests were made Monday in Rapides parish. The parties were brought back here Tuesday and are held in close confinement at the parish jail, not even their names being revealed.
It is stated, however, that both the parties resided until recently in Crowley and that they were both here at the time of the murder and fled the next day. One of the parties it is said passed for a negro preacher.
While the officers are reticent as to the evidence they have accumulated in the case it is said circumstances point strongly to the two having been implicated in the killing.
The negroes were captured after a long chase, Chief of Police Burt and Deputy Sheriff Lyman Clark having been on their trail for several days. The frequently got on the negroes trail only to lose it again, while the impassable roads and bad train connections worked in favor of the negroes and against the officers. Finally they located the pair by wire from Kinder at a point in Rapides parish and had the Rapides authorities hold them until they could arrive.
